What is RAM?

RAM (Random Access Memory) is a computing hardware works and as a primary memory mediator in the computer. It supports and provides the main processor of the motherboard with quickest data access from ROM (Read Only Memory) or Hard disk. It is pre-manage the processor required instruction, like where the operating system and other applications programs data are kept save as a temporary basis inside the RAM and provide the quickest access data to the processer as required during the intercourse. Due to the RAM, we are capable to complete the works on war footing basis. The speed of the RAM is faster compare with other Hard disk drive (HDD) and solid-state drive (SDD) or an optical drive.

Let understand the RAM is a method of basics of computer memory that supportable to change in any order and read, classically used to stock or store machine code and user data. The random- access device is capable of the same amount of time data inside the memory can be read and write. In contrast, with other data storage devices like Hard disk, CD, DVD and other magnetic tapes, the time required to write and read data. Due to the same mechanical limitations, secondary memory fails to provide the fastest support to the users.

RAM (Random Access Memory) fall in volatile memory categories. It’s mean that the data remains in RAM as long as the computer is “On” status. But it’s lost when the computer power turned off. When the computer is start and RAM is starting to reload all operating files from the Hard disk and solid-state drive.

As discussed the concept of RAM previous, now needs to clarify the basic concept of Memory Cell so that it easily understands the complete functions of RAM. The basic fundamental block of computer memory is called Memory Cell. The memory cell is one bit of the binary information stored in the electronic circuit. The information is written or stored in the circuit a logic 1 high voltage level and data information remove or reset store a logic 0 low voltage level. It’s mean that the value of the information store until it is changed by the set and reset process. The data can retrievable in the memory cell by only the reading process.

As discussed that process of “On” “OFF” voltage in the circuit store/ reset the data. Now needs to discuss two popular circuits are being used inside the RAM.

The Static random access memory SRAM memory cell fall in electronic circuit type of flip-flop, regularly executed using Field-effect transistor FETs and requires very low power when not being accessed, but it is so costly compared with has low storage density.

The second type, Dynamic random access memory (DRAM), is another electronic circuit based around a capacitor. The data can be written by charging the capacitor can store in the cell logic “1” and data can be read by discharging the capacitor can reset store in the cell logic “0”. However, the charged capacitor slowly discharges and refreshed sometimes. Because the refreshing process, DRAM consumes more power and capacity to achieve greater storage bulks and it is lower cost compared with SRAM.

Multiplexer:

In electronic, the concept of the multiplexer (mux) uses as a data selector that receives digital or analog input singles and forwarded output signal. Multiplexer has multiple inputs with a single output. Suppose one gate has many locks. It’s mean that we can cross the gate, until all lock should be removed. This concept helps to manage the memory cell in order to store maximum data.

De-multiplexer:

In electronic, the concept of the demultiplexer (demux) is a device works vice versa multiplex. It has a single input and always receives an output signal of the multiplex, and multiple outputs that splits the single data stream into the original multiple signals.

The RAM contains millions of memory cells that are managed by multiplexing and demultiplexing circuitry, which store the data inline address in the circuit for reading or writing the entry. It means the same-intercourse that RAM is reading the information from ROM or Hard disk and processor. It’s mean the same time RAM doing multiple reading tasks; reading the demand of the processor and same time start reading the ROM or Hard disk for procure the demand of processor as shape of information data. If the processor demands data appear in the Hard disk. The RAM quickly writes the data inside of RAM before execution time. It means the same time RAM is engaged in reading and writing and fulfilling the demand for the information with a specific time.

Bus DRAM is taking much power compares with SRAM and it is capable to achieve greater storage.

The data are being saved in the transistors without using capacitors. The Static Random Access Memory (SRAM) is expensive compare with DRAM. But the SRAM needs less power to compare with DRAM and have low storage density. The performance base of the SRAM is faster compare with DRAM. The SRAM used inside the processor as cache memory.

3. Lack of Physical Parts

The RAM does not have moveable electromagnetic parts, moving platters and magnetic heads. Like Hard disk and optical disk have. After continuous usage, the parts became wearing out and directly affect the storage read and write performance.

The RAM consumes less power compare with ROM and Optical Disk. The both secondary storage movable mechanism needs much power to store the data.

The RAM is chipper compare with other ROM and SSD.

6. Save Battery life

The RAM is consuming only 03 watts and saves or increases the laptop battery life.

What are the disadvantages of Random Access Memory (RAM)?

1. Temporary Storage

The second disadvantages RAM is quite expensive per bit to compare with Hard disk, SSD and an optical disk. Greater storage RAM in the system increases the performance of the system, But due to costly people are unable to buy.

3. The Limited Storage

The RAM does not have huge storage as ROM, SSD and Optical storage have.

The data loss in the RAM, when the computer is power turned off. But lost data neither able to recover after the start of computer nor data recover by any software.

5. Low Cache

Due to limited storage of RAM has a low cache compare with the processor.
